This is not a cut-down product. Free accounts use the same platform as paid ones:

- **[Email API](/features/transaction-emails) and [SMTP relay](/features/smtp).** Send with the REST API, one of our [SDKs](/sdk), or point Nodemailer, Laravel or Django at the SMTP relay.
- **Templates and scheduled sends.** Build templates, schedule mail for later, and send from the API with variables.
- **[Agent inboxes](/features/ai-agents) and inbound email.** Give an AI agent its own address, receive replies, and read them in the shared human inbox.
- **Deliverability tooling.** SPF, DKIM and DMARC setup, pristine shared IPs, spam testing and reputation monitoring.
- **Analytics and logs.** Delivery events, opens and clicks, and event logs for 45 days.
- **Bring your own SMTP.** Connect one of your own SMTP servers and send through it from Reloop.

## Why a permanent free tier

Email is one of the first things a new app needs: a signup confirmation, a password reset, a magic link. You shouldn't have to talk to sales or start a countdown just to send those.

We built the free tier for three kinds of projects:

1. **Side projects and early products.** 6,000 emails a month covers auth emails, receipts and notifications for a real app with real users.
2. **Staging and preview environments.** Keep a free account for staging so test mail never touches your production reputation or quota.
3. **AI agents.** Three agent inboxes is enough to prototype an agent that sends, receives and replies to email. See [how to give an AI agent an email address](/blog/give-ai-agent-email-address).

Reloop is [open source](https://github.com/reloop-labs/reloop), so you can always [self-host](/self-host) with no license fee. The free tier is for everyone who'd rather not run mail servers: same product, we run it.

## How it compares

Free plans across the industry have been shrinking. SendGrid no longer has a permanent free plan; new accounts get a 60-day trial. Resend's free tier is 3,000 emails a month capped at 100 a day.

## When you outgrow it

The free tier has no overage. When you reach 200 emails in a day or 6,000 in a month, sending pauses until the limit resets, so you'll never get a surprise bill. When you need more, you have two options:

- **[Pro](/blog/introducing-monthly-plans), $10 / month.** 50,000 emails a month with no daily cap, 5 MB attachments, more inboxes, webhooks and domains, and $0.50 per 1,000 extra emails.
- **[Pay as you go](/blog/introducing-pay-as-you-go).** Keep the free allowance and buy credits at $0.50 per 1,000 emails, from 3,000 emails. Credits are valid for 6 months, and Pro limits apply while you have them.
