**The short version:** **Reloop** is the strongest Lettermint alternative for most teams: it's hosted on Hetzner with EU data centers, costs $10 for 50,000 emails instead of €40, and adds real inboxes, campaigns and automations, with the option to self-host. **Sweego** is the pick if you need a French company and SMS. **MailPace** fits if you want no tracking at all. **Brevo** and **Mailjet** are the established EU marketing suites.

Lettermint is a good product. It's a Dutch company on EU infrastructure, ISO 27001 certified, with a clean API. People look elsewhere for a few honest reasons:

- **Price at volume.** 50,000 emails is €40 on Starter and 100,000 lands in the €85 tier.
- **Inbound is a webhook, not a mailbox.** If you want stored threads you can reply from, or agents that read mail, you build that yourself.
- **No contacts or automations** in its docs, only a broadcast sending route.
- **Hosted only.** You can't run it on your own servers.

We build Reloop, so weigh our entry accordingly. Every competitor fact below comes from our head-to-head posts, each of which links the provider's own pricing and docs.

## 1. Reloop: best overall Lettermint alternative

[Reloop](/) is open-source email infrastructure: a transactional API and SMTP relay, inbound mailboxes, contacts, campaigns, event-triggered automations and signed webhooks. **Reloop Cloud runs on Hetzner, a German hosting company, with EU data centers**, and comes with a [DPA](/dpa) based on the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. If you'd rather hold the servers yourself, the same Apache 2.0 code [self-hosts](/self-host) on any EU machine.

**Pricing:** free for 6,000 emails a month (200 a day). Pro is $10 for 50,000, Growth is $20 for 100,000 with a dedicated IP, and overage is $0.50 per 1,000. Or prepay credits at $0.50 per 1,000, valid for 6 months.

**Strengths**

- **About a quarter of Lettermint's price** at 50k ($10 vs €40) and 100k ($20 vs €85).
- **Inbound mail as real mailboxes** with threads, readable over the API, the [MCP server](/docs/integrations/ai-tools/mcp-server) or IMAP, so an AI agent or a human can reply in-thread. Hosted plans include 3, 5 or 10 inboxes on Free, Pro and Growth.
- **Contacts, campaigns and automations** on every plan, with one suppression list across transactional and marketing mail.
- **Open source and self-hostable.**

**Weaknesses**

- **No published ISO 27001 certificate.** If your vendor review requires one, Lettermint has it.
- Lettermint offers enterprise controls like SSO with SCIM from its Starter plan.
- Open and click tracking is on for new domains; switch it off per domain if you don't want it.

**Best for:** EU teams that want EU hosting at a lower price, plus inboxes and automations. Full comparison: [Reloop vs Lettermint](/blog/reloop-vs-lettermint).

## 2. Sweego: best French option with SMS

[Sweego](https://www.sweego.io/) is a French email and SMS API from Mindbaz SAS in Lille, running on OVHcloud and Scaleway data centers in France.

**Pricing:** free for 100 emails a day. Individual starts at €10 for 20,000 to 50,000 emails, Startup at €79 for 100,000 to 200,000 with a dedicated IP available, and Scaleup includes one. See [sweego.io/pricing](https://www.sweego.io/pricing).

**Strengths:** French company and French hosting, SMS in the same account, log retention that grows to 90 days on higher plans.

**Weaknesses:** no lists, campaigns or automations; inbound is a webhook on paid plans; hosted only.

**Best for:** French and EU teams that need transactional email and SMS from one provider. Full comparison: [Reloop vs Sweego](/blog/reloop-vs-sweego).

## 3. MailPace: best privacy-first alternative

[MailPace](https://mailpace.com/) is a UK company whose service is EU-hosted (its DPA names France). Its defining rule: **it never tracks opens or clicks.**

**Pricing:** from $10 for 10,000 emails, $50 at 50,000 and $100 at 100,000. A free plan of up to 100 emails a month is available on request. See [mailpace.com/pricing](https://mailpace.com/pricing).

**Strengths:** no tracking pixels at all, idempotent sends, inbound mail as JSON webhooks, a small focused product.

**Weaknesses:** transactional only (marketing is prohibited), shared IPs only, and no open or click data if your product team wants it.

**Best for:** privacy-focused products sending only transactional mail. Full comparison: [Reloop vs MailPace](/blog/reloop-vs-mailpace).

## 4. Brevo: best EU marketing suite

[Brevo](https://www.brevo.com/) (formerly Sendinblue) runs from Paris, with servers in the EU on OVH and Google Cloud.

**Pricing:** free for 300 emails a day. Starter begins at $9 for 5,000 emails and Standard, which adds automations, at $18. Larger volumes are priced on a slider at [brevo.com/pricing](https://www.brevo.com/pricing/).

**Strengths:** email, SMS, WhatsApp, CRM and live chat in one product, with a drag-and-drop editor for marketers.

**Weaknesses:** gets expensive at higher volumes compared with developer-focused APIs, inbound is a webhook, and part of its hosting is on Google Cloud.

**Best for:** marketing-led EU teams. Full comparison: [Reloop vs Brevo](/blog/reloop-vs-brevo).

## 5. Mailjet: best established EU ESP

[Mailjet](https://www.mailjet.com/) started in France and is now owned by Sinch. It stores customer data in Google Cloud data centers in Frankfurt and Saint-Ghislain.

**Pricing:** free for 6,000 emails a month (200 a day). At 50,000 it's $40 on Essential or $59 on Premium; 100,000 on Premium is $112. See [mailjet.com/pricing](https://www.mailjet.com/pricing/).

**Strengths:** long GDPR track record, a strong visual editor, transactional and marketing in one account.

**Weaknesses:** automations need Premium, dedicated IPs are on request at higher volumes, and the hosting runs on Google Cloud.

**Best for:** teams that want a mature EU-hosted ESP. Full comparison: [Reloop vs Mailjet](/blog/reloop-vs-mailjet).

## Non-EU options worth knowing

If EU hosting isn't a hard requirement, two US providers often come up:

- **[Postmark](/blog/reloop-vs-postmark):** a US company with a strong transactional deliverability reputation and separate message streams. $15 for 10,000 on Basic, then $1.80 per 1,000, so about $87 at 50k.
- **[Resend](/blog/reloop-vs-resend):** a US company with an excellent developer experience. Free for 3,000 a month; $20 for 50k and $35 for 100k. It sends through Amazon SES.

Both need a DPA and a transfer mechanism (such as SCCs) for EU personal data. Our [EU email API guide](/blog/eu-email-api-providers-2026) explains what that involves.

## How to choose

- **"We want EU hosting at the lowest price."** Reloop.
- **"We need an EU-registered company and ISO 27001."** Stay on Lettermint, or look at Sweego for a French company.
- **"We need SMS too."** Sweego or Brevo.
- **"We can't use tracking pixels."** MailPace, or Reloop with tracking switched off per domain.
- **"We need inbound mail as real inboxes, for support or AI agents."** Reloop.
- **"Marketers will run the campaigns."** Brevo or Mailjet.
- **"We want to run it on our own servers."** Reloop, self-hosted.

---

## Switching from Lettermint

1. **Sign the new provider's DPA** and update your records of processing.
2. **Verify your sending domain.** Add the new DKIM record and merge the provider's include into your existing SPF record; never publish a second SPF record. Our [SPF, DKIM and DMARC guide](/blog/spf-dkim-dmarc-setup-guide) covers it.
3. **Export your suppressions** from Lettermint and import them, so you don't email people who bounced or complained.
4. **Swap the client and webhooks.** On Reloop, the API key goes in `x-api-key`, templates use `{{{variable}}}`, and webhooks are signed in the `Reloop-Signature` header.
5. **Ramp traffic** over one to two weeks while watching bounce and complaint rates, then remove Lettermint's DNS records.
