**Cloudflare Email Service is the most convenient way to send email from a Worker**: one binding, one `send()` call, no API key. It's also new, narrow by design, and tied to Cloudflare. Sending entered public beta in April 2026, your domain has to use Cloudflare DNS, and it only allows transactional mail.

**The short version:** if you want the same easy sending from Workers plus templates, webhooks, campaigns and real inboxes, **Reloop** is the closest alternative, and it's cheaper than Cloudflare below about 200k emails a month. If you want the most polished hosted API, **Resend**. If raw price per email is everything, **Amazon SES**. For prepaid, transactional-only sending, **ZeptoMail**.

We build Reloop, so weigh our entry accordingly. Facts about each provider come from our researched head-to-head posts, linked in each section, and each section says where that provider wins.

## Why teams look for a Cloudflare Email Service alternative

Cloudflare's email sending is a strong option for Workers-only apps. The reasons people look elsewhere are specific:

- **It's in beta.** Sending is still labeled public beta, which matters if you need a vendor SLA for password resets.
- **Cloudflare DNS is required.** Cloudflare's own guide says you must use Cloudflare DNS to use Email Service. If your domain lives at Route 53 or your registrar, that's a migration.
- **Transactional only.** No newsletters, product announcements or lifecycle campaigns.
- **No real free tier for users.** The free plan only sends to addresses you've verified in your own account. Sending to customers needs Workers Paid.
- **Events go to Queues, not webhooks.** Delivery events land in Cloudflare Queues, so you consume them inside Cloudflare.
- **Missing pieces.** Stored templates, idempotency keys, dedicated IPs and open and click tracking aren't documented.
- **Limits.** 50 recipients and 5 MiB per email, and new accounts start on a conservative daily quota.

Cloudflare figures include the $5 Workers Paid minimum and are our math from its $0.35 per 1,000 rate after 3,000 included. ZeptoMail figures use the widely listed $2.50 per 10k credit, which varies by region. Postmark at these volumes is list price plus overage; Mailgun at 100k is its $90 Scale plan. SES is send-only, before data transfer.

## 1. Reloop: best overall Cloudflare Email Service alternative

[Reloop](/) is open-source email infrastructure: a transactional API, SMTP relay, templates, signed webhooks, inbound mailboxes, contacts, campaigns and event automations. It runs its own MTA (KumoMTA), and **Reloop Cloud runs on Hetzner, a German hosting company, with EU data centers**.

From a Worker, it's the SDK with the `nodejs_compat` flag, or one `fetch` call. Our [Cloudflare Workers guide](/blog/send-email-cloudflare-workers) covers both:

```typescript
  async fetch(request: Request, env: { RELOOP_API_KEY: string }) {
    const reloop = new Reloop({ apiKey: env.RELOOP_API_KEY });
    const { response, emailError } = await reloop.mail.send({
      from: "Acme <welcome@mail.acme.com>",
      to: "user@example.com",
      subject: "Welcome",
      html: "<p>Thanks for signing up.</p>",
    });
    return Response.json(emailError ?? response);
  },
};
```

**Pricing:** Free for 6,000 emails a month (200 a day). Pro is $10 for 50,000, Growth is $20 for 100,000 with a dedicated IP, and extra mail is $0.50 per 1,000. Or skip the plan and buy prepaid credits at $0.50 per 1,000, valid for 6 months. Self-hosting under Apache 2.0 has no per-email fee.

**Strengths**

- **Any DNS provider.** Keep your domain where it is.
- A real free tier you can use with customers.
- Stored templates with `{{{variables}}}`, `Idempotency-Key` retries, and errors returned as values with `message`, `why` and `fix`.
- Signed HTTP webhooks (`Reloop-Signature`) that you can consume from a Worker or anywhere else.
- Inbound mailboxes with threads, readable over the API, the MCP server or IMAP (3, 5 and 10 hosted inboxes on Free, Pro and Growth).
- Campaigns and event automations on the same suppression list.
- The same code runs on Workers, Vercel, Fly.io or a Node server.

**Weaknesses**

- **You store one secret** (`wrangler secret put RELOOP_API_KEY`) instead of using a binding.
- **Above roughly 200k emails a month, Cloudflare's $0.35 rate is cheaper** than our $0.50 overage.

**Best for:** Workers apps that need more than transactional sending, or a domain that isn't on Cloudflare DNS. Full comparison: [Reloop vs Cloudflare Email Service](/blog/reloop-vs-cloudflare-email).

## 2. Resend: best hosted developer experience

Resend set the bar for a modern email API and created React Email. It sends through Amazon SES under the hood.

**Pricing:** free for 3,000 a month (100 a day), $20 for 50,000, $35 for 100,000, overage $0.90 per 1,000.

**Strengths:** clean API and SDKs, React Email, a big ecosystem of examples, broadcasts and contacts.

**Weaknesses:** $35 at 100k; a dedicated IP needs the $90 Scale plan plus a $30/mo add-on; inbound is a webhook per message; hosted-only.

**Best for:** teams under 50k emails a month that want the most polished hosted API. Full comparison: [Reloop vs Resend](/blog/reloop-vs-resend), or our [Resend alternative](/alternatives/resend) page.

---

## 3. Amazon SES: cheapest per email

If Cloudflare's appeal for you was price, SES is cheaper still: $0.10 per 1,000 emails, plus $0.12 per GB of outbound data.

**Strengths:** the lowest per-email price of any hosted option; deep AWS integration.

**Weaknesses:** a sandbox you must request to leave; bounce and complaint handling through SNS or EventBridge that you build; no dashboard beyond CloudWatch; no marketing. Calling it from a Worker means signing AWS requests.

**Best for:** AWS-native teams sending at very high volume. Full comparison: [Reloop vs Amazon SES](/blog/reloop-vs-aws-ses).

---

## 4. ZeptoMail: best prepaid, transactional-only option

ZeptoMail from Zoho, now part of Zoho CPaaS, sells email on prepaid credits: one credit sends 10,000 emails, the first is free, and credits last 6 months.

**Pricing:** about $2.50 per credit (varies by region): roughly $12.50 for 50,000 and $25 for 100,000.

**Strengths:** no monthly fee; cheaper than Reloop above about 150,000 a month; Mail Agents separate products and environments; any DNS provider.

**Weaknesses:** like Cloudflare, marketing mail isn't allowed. No inbound mailboxes, and credits expire.

**Best for:** teams leaving Cloudflare only because of the DNS requirement or beta status, and that still send only transactional mail. Full comparison: [Reloop vs ZeptoMail](/blog/reloop-vs-zeptomail).

---

## 5. Postmark: best for deliverability focus

Postmark is transactional-first, with separate message streams for transactional and broadcast mail.

**Pricing:** free for 100 a month. Basic starts at $15 for 10,000, with overage at $1.80 per 1,000 ($1.30 on Pro): about $87 at 50,000 and $177 at 100,000 on Basic list price.

**Strengths:** long track record, message streams, excellent docs.

**Weaknesses:** expensive at volume; dedicated IPs are $50 a month from 300k; inbound is a webhook on Pro and up.

**Best for:** teams that put delivery speed above cost. Full comparison: [Reloop vs Postmark](/blog/reloop-vs-postmark).

---

## 6. MailerSend: best with a visual builder

MailerSend, from the team behind MailerLite, pairs a transactional API with a drag-and-drop template builder.

**Pricing:** free for 500 a month. Starter is $35 for 50,000 and $68 for 100,000, with overage at $1.30 per 1,000 (monthly billing; annual takes 10% off).

**Strengths:** visual template builder, SMS in the US and Canada, inbound parsing to a webhook or address.

**Weaknesses:** a small free tier; marketing lives in the separate MailerLite product; dedicated IPs are an add-on on Professional.

**Best for:** teams where non-developers design transactional templates. Full comparison: [Reloop vs MailerSend](/blog/reloop-vs-mailersend).

---

## 7. Mailgun: best for inbound routing and validation

Mailgun is a long-standing developer API with inbound routes and email validation as a paid add-on.

**Pricing:** 100 a day on a trial. Basic is $15 for 10,000, Foundation is $35 for 50,000, and 100,000 is about $100 with overage from $1.30 per 1,000.

**Strengths:** mature API, Handlebars templates, inbound routes, validation.

**Weaknesses:** expensive at 100k; dedicated IPs and validation cost extra; marketing is a separate Sinch product.

**Best for:** teams that need validation and inbound routing from one vendor. Full comparison: [Reloop vs Mailgun](/blog/reloop-vs-mailgun).

## How to choose

- **"Our app is all-in on Workers and only sends receipts and resets."** Stay on Cloudflare Email Service. It's a good fit.
- **"Our domain isn't on Cloudflare DNS."** Reloop, Resend or ZeptoMail.
- **"We need onboarding emails, newsletters or automations too."** Reloop.
- **"We need to receive and reply to email, for support or AI agents."** Reloop's mailboxes, readable over API, MCP or IMAP.
- **"We need a GA product with an SLA today."** Any of the established providers here instead of a beta.
- **"We want the lowest price at millions of emails."** Amazon SES, or self-hosted Reloop.

---

## Switching from Cloudflare Email Service

1. **Verify your domain** with the new provider. Cloudflare's onboarding added records on a `cf-bounce` subdomain; leave them until you've fully switched, then remove them. Merge the new provider's include into your existing SPF record rather than adding a second one.
2. **Store an API key** as a Worker secret, for example `wrangler secret put RELOOP_API_KEY`.
3. **Replace `env.EMAIL.send(...)`** with the new SDK call. On Reloop that's `reloop.mail.send(...)`; rename `replyTo` to `reply_to`, and check `emailError` instead of catching exceptions.
4. **Move event handling** from your Queues consumer to an HTTP webhook handler. On Reloop, verify the `Reloop-Signature` header.
5. **Import suppressions** so you don't email addresses that bounced or complained.
6. **Ramp traffic** over one to two weeks and watch bounce and complaint rates.
